How Vote-By-Mail Ballots Are Counted

If the information cannot be verified, a person is not able to move forward with submitting the application electronically. The voter will be required to vote either at their new polling location or at a central location designated by the county election commission office. If the voter does not choose to use the above application, the voter may also submit, in writing, any address change within the county to their local county election commission office.

If the voter has not updated their address and the voting period has begun, we encourage the voter to vote during the early voting period. The early voting period typically runs from the twentieth (20th) day to the fifth (5th) day before the election. The voter may go to any early voting location within their county to update their address and vote.

Online Registration

Voters who declare they are registered and eligible to vote in the county in which they desire to vote, but whose names do not appear on the registration list, must be permitted to cast a provisional ballot. If you have a good faith belief you are properly registered in your county, you have the right to vote a provisional ballot.

How, where, and when to vote

Your signature is required to verify your identity and process the ballot. The Representative’s Statement (step 8) needs to be signed in the presence of the Registrar staff. This application must be provided in person to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk by the voter’s representative. The voter’s representative will be issued the voter’s replacement Vote by Mail ballot the same day. Read more about Election Services here. After you send in your ballot, you can check if it was received by your election office. If your official absentee ballot arrives after sending in the FWAB, fill out and send in the official ballot too.

To learn how to file for office, visit the Become a Candidate in the Elections Administration and Campaigns section. This poll card will show which of the 3 ways you have chosen to vote. You will receive a poll card in the post approximately 2 to 3 weeks before a forthcoming Poll Day. Voting gives you a chance to voice your opinion on important issues that affect you, your local area and your country. Poll close times vary from state to state, and some states have multiple poll close times depending on how many time zones fall within its borders. They will get you the answer or let you know where to find it.

The recommended vote-by day for the 2022 General Election is October 24, 2022, if you’re outside the U.S. Your voting residence (the U.S. state or territory where you are registering to vote) is likely your legal residence.
