In Scandinavian cultures, they rarely stop at two sauna bathers. They have a long tradition of enjoying the sauna together with friends and/or family. The ritual of heating the sauna, chatting and bathing is just good quality time spent together – no technology, just reconnecting with one another. Saunas are a great way to enjoy a languid chat or just get comfortable in silence. The Dutch cultures are quite reformed in their sauna / spa cultures and quite comfortable with shared nakedness. Since exposure to high temperatures and moisture can affect its integrity and appeal, wood requires specific treatment and regular maintenance operations. Getting the most out of your sauna experience
Infrared sauna is different compared to a traditional sauna. A traditional sauna heats up the air whereas an infrared sauna heats your body directly without warming the air around you.
In Finland, where I’m from, saunas are usually quiet places. You can have conversations with other people in the sauna or listen to music, but please check with others first. To keep your feet clean, rubber slippers or shower sandals are acceptable to wear in the sauna. I wrote a full guide about the temperature and humidity in the sauna. In short, the temperature in a sauna ranges from 90°F to 200°F (32°C to 93°C) and the humidity ranges from 10% to 100% depending on the type of sauna. My personal favorite is of course the traditional Finnish Sauna. If you have the option to try different types of saunas, I highly recommend doing so to know which you like the best.
Infrared heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally. Traditional saunas raise the temperature of the air to a very high level within the chamber to warm the body. Some people have difficulty breathing in this extremely warm air. Instead of heating the air within the enclosure, infrared saunas heat the body directly. In an infrared sauna, the body perspires and receives all of the healthy benefits but avoids the harmful and extremely hot air of a traditional steam sauna. The sun is the primary source of radiant energy, but not all of this energy is beneficial. Although life needs energy from the sun, too much sunlight damages the skin.
